Western Australia
Science Week 2008
The Perth branch of Kelly Scientific Resources celebrated Science Week by hosting a “Brain Break” Morning Tea in the Perth office of Kelly Services.  “We were happy to share the wonders of science with our Kelly Services colleagues”, according to David Udy, Manager Professional & Technical Division in Perth.  “They were also appreciative of the wonderful morning tea supplied”, he said.

Science Week

A series of experiments were set up to allow some interaction and appreciation of the scientific method.  One of the fun activities was designed to determine whether it was possible to extract iron from breakfast cereal.  Cereals are usually fortified with iron and it is supposedly a simple process to remove it using a magnet.  The cereal is crushed in water and then the magnet attracts the iron particles from the bottom.

“We tried Weet Bix and Corn Flakes with limited success”, David said.  “Maybe we should have tried Nutri Grain, as it is supposed to be Iron Man Food.”  There was also a science quiz during the event and this was won by Maria Themistocleous, who happens to be an Intern for Kelly Scientific Resources.
